Marilyn Fluffing Her Big Hair. Pencil on Bristol. 6 by 6. 2005. From a glamour photo of Marilyn Monroe found in a library picture book. She wasn't fluffing and didn't have big hair.

Many of my drawings are sparked by a photo of someone—sometimes famous, sometimes not. But they never end as a representation of that person, or even of the particular photo that caught my eye. I'm not an illustrator, I don't have that skill, but rather a composer of lines and shapes. Mostly I credit the source-subject because she (usually) or he (seldom) was my inspiration. Sometimes I forget.
