Archer. Pencil on Bristol. 5 by 7. 2004. From the reproduction of a Sahara Desert Tassili rock painting in the book, The Search for the Tassili Frescoes, by Henri Lhote.

In the 1950's Henri and his crew explored the site of these ancient and very remote rock paintings. I found the book among some discards of my across the street neighbor. I had never heard of the Tassilis or their rock paintings. The Tassilis are long gone but the inhospitable Sarah Desert environment served to preserve their work for thousands of years.

I haven't drawn many pictures that have straight lines as does "Archer." (Never have I used a straight edge!) My mother said there were no straight lines in either nature or art. She cited Einstein as her authority—that even light rays bend to gravity!
