Woman with Zipper Pull. Pencil on Bristol. 5 by 7. 2005. From a San Francisco Chronicle Sunday Magazine ad for women's fashions. In the ad the pull was already hooked to the zipper. I don't think a woman would ever fish over her shoulder for the pull as I have depicted. She would first hook up and then pull up.

I've learned from the dictionary that a Zipper (capital Z) was the name of an English leather shoe that introduced the zipper mechanism to the world of clothing manufacture. I guess zipper, like aspirin, subsequently became a common noun.
